It might be hard to believe, but you can find both snow and skiing in Dubai. If you’re craving below-zero temperatures, a blanket of snow, and some winter activities, no worries—Dubai will make snow for you.
It might sound over the top, especially when the concrete outside is practically melting in the 45-degree heat. But once again, it’s true.
Skiing in Dubai
The best—and not the only—place to experience skiing in Dubai at the Mall of the Emirates, is yet another impressive shopping destination. Right in the middle of the mall is a massive ski slope that spans three floors, with temperatures kept at a chilly -3°C. Quite the contrast to the scorching heat outside!
Your entrance fee includes a jacket and boots, and depending on your preference, you can ski, go sledding, or even try the bobsled track.
When I visited, I stood by the enormous glass window watching Arab women in thick parkas over their black abayas, taking their kids for indoor skiing. They were constantly slipping and stumbling in the snow, a stark contrast to the world outside.
A group of tourists, mostly from Asia—where snow is often a rare or even unknown phenomenon—posed for pictures, marveling at the scene but seemingly hesitant to venture into the frosty -3°C.
As for me, I decided to pass on the skiing and opted for a coffee, enjoying a leisurely “summer stroll” through the shopping mall instead.
