When I went exploring what to see in la Rambla, I promised myself not to rush that afternoon but to take a nice stroll down this famous street. This is a charming pedestrian path that connects Placa de Catalunya and the Christopher Columbus Monument at Port Vell.
What to See in la Rambla
I recognized all these Barcelona landmarks from photos I saw before I came here. There were numerous flower stands along the street with mimes amusing us passers-by. There was the theater where I went to buy tickets for the Barcelona flamenco show. i couldn’t wait to see it.

Oh, La Boqueria! I am still excited like a kid in a toy store whenever I look at the photos. I hear myself saying “aw”. But, just look at those counters with fruit and juices! Oh (another one!), and how about that one with chocolate and sweets? I loved the bustle and murmur of the crowd going in and out, buying, smiling, chatting. If you are wondering what to see in la Rambla, la Boqueria is a must.

I found a charming restaurant to try the famous paella on the opposite side of the street. It was steaming from a large dish when the waiter brought it to my table.
“A glass of home wine maybe?” he asked.
Oh, sure (here’s another “oh”), I would love one. The meal was just delicious. I think I ate it all while it was still hot, I couldn’t wait.
I went outside again, strolling down the street. It is touristy but still has a unique charm. A lot of different languages around you and interesting architecture on both sides. I always wanted to learn Spanish. They say it’s easy once you know Italian or French, and I did speak the latter…
Oh (I’ll stop, I promise!), and the scent of waffles! There are street stands with waffles and a variety of tastes to add. I took mine with chocolate and tried to eat it while still walking without getting any stains…

I remembered that there was some Spanish TV series broadcasting back home with a lot of those hola chiquitas and hola chicos. There, I know two or three words.
“Hola chiquita. Party tonight?”, somebody shouted behind my back.
I almost burst into laughter! I just waved to the guy, smiling, and, of course, pouring that chocolate all over my fingers. Did he just come out of the TV series or what?

The sound of the paella in La Boqueria is lovely. I can visualise it 🙂 I love eating in markets too. Apart from the fact that they do not rip my pockets off, I also like feeling like a local! x
It was the restaurant right across La Boqueria, quiet little place unlike noisy and crowded entrance to the market. But I had my share of juice and chocolate at market’s stands! 😉

Barcelona was such an exciting city. Gorgeous architecture, vibrant culture and delicious cuisine… what more could you ask for?

La Boqueria is such a wonderful market. I’ve read that the city of Barcelona is trying to discourage tourism to the city because it’s over subscribed. It’s really difficult when you have gems like La Boqueria that keep beckoning return visits!
Read about the issue with tourism in Barcelona, but what can you do, it’s so hard to skip the visit! Hope they will organize it better, so that we can still enjoy the city without disturbing its everyday-life, fingers crossed!

The best way to get close to the city is probably to go to its local market. It’s the same here. 🙂
